The results to the When did you start saving for retirement survey? are extremely interesting. Not only has the response been very strong (several hundred voters almost immediately), but the uniformity of answers is striking.
Why such a strong response? I suspect because people remember the moment they made the commitment to take action towards creating a greater cushion for their financial future. I know I can. What do you think the reason is for the strong response?
The results (yes, you can still vote) show a fairly even distribution of starting ages. At the time I write this, approximately 1/5 of voters indicated they started before age 25, 1/5 between 25 and 30, and 1/5 at age 40 or later. Thirty percent started during their 30s or are still thinking about it.
Does any of this surprise you? Why or why not?
