For millions of Americans, planning for retirement is an activity largely done alone. Others solely use their spouse or life partner as their sounding board. Sometimes, a different, more thorough and impartial method, is called for.
When is it time to get help from a financial professional?
While somewhat subjective, it will make sense to get a financial professional involved when:
- You have significant assets saved and don’t feel comfortable investing them
- Either you or your spouse have children from a previous marriage
- You are getting close to the time where you will need to decide how much longer to work and need a solid analysis of whether you can afford to do so
- You are not certain of your risk tolerance
- You have been offered a retirement buyout by your employer
- You have a large amount of money in company stock
- You are not sleeping well because you are not comfortable as a 100% do-it-yourselfer.
