Question: What is the deadline to contribute to a Roth IRA?
Answer: You can contribute to a Roth IRA at anytime. However, contributions are limited based on a calendar year. For 2010, the Roth IRA limit is $5,000 (unless you are 50 or older, in which case you can contribute a total of $6,000). To make a contribution for a specific year, you must do so by the tax filing deadline for that year. In most cases, this means you must make your contribution by April 15 for it to be eligible to be counted as a prior year contribution. After that date, the contribution must be considered a current year contribution. Also consider the income limits for Roth IRA contributions.
